What is Alma TED?

The Alma TED hair loss treatment is a completely non-invasive solution designed to support scalp and hair restoration. While the procedure itself can be completed in as little as 30 minutes, here at our clinic, we dedicate between 60 and 90 minutes to ensure the most precise and effective results possible.

Each session begins with advanced scalp tracking and analytic technology, allowing us to gain a detailed understanding of your scalp health and customize the treatment plan to your unique needs. Following your TED session, we also include light therapy to further enhance circulation, healing, and results.

How Do Sound Waves Help Reverse Thinning Hair and Hair Loss?

The Alma TED Hair Loss Treatment system uses low-frequency “ultrasonic” acoustic sound waves and air pressure to drive topical hair growth treatments deep into the skin through a process called acoustic cavitation. This use of sound waves to increase the penetration of topical treatments is called sonophoresis or phonophoresis.

The stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the epidermis. This is composed primarily of dead cells and lipids, which form the primary barrier between the body and the environment. Basically, the stratum corneum has a “brick and mortar”-like structure, which blocks the penetration of large molecules and moisture. The corneocytes are the cellular “bricks” that are “mortared” together with lipids, creating the outer barrier.

Ultrasonic sound waves at a very specific vibration or frequency cause tiny, transient gaseous bubbles within the stratum corneum to rapidly expand and collapse. Consequently, we disorganize the lipid bilayer and temporarily increase the ability for the growth serum to permeate. Additionally, the mechanical pressure of the sound waves creates a push-and-pull effect. This helps to facilitate the delivery of compounds through the stratum corneum layer.

Through the process of Alma TED or “TransEpidermal Delivery,” we can increase the penetration of topical hair growth treatments through the top layer of skin. As a result, more of the active ingredients are able to reach the hair follicles located below.
